New adhesive binding machine at Prinovis Itzehoe

Prinovis Itzehoe expanded this year, following the acquisition of a new adhesive binding line comprising 22 bar feeders and two rollsheet feeders, three gluing machines for product samples, one Müller Martini standard binding machine comprising two saddle binding stations, one insert machine for six inserts, film packaging and palletising. The equipment was purchased partly second-hand, partly new. It took only seven months from making the decision to production start-up to implement the demanding project in Itzehoe.

The complete line covers an area of about 45 by 22 square meters and comprises various machine components connected by conveyor belts. The line begins with the bar feeders and rollsheet feeders, “fed” by a special crane structure. From here, production continues via gluing stations and conveyor belts to the three-way cutter, which “trims” the printing material "to shape" at the three open sides. Reply cards and other insertions may, for instance, subsequently be inserted into catalogues or magazines in the insert line, before an addressing line may personalise the shipments through a sticker. As in the other adhesive binding and stapling lines, CD-ROMs or booklets may be glued to the cover on request. In the subsequent packaging line, the parcels are wrapped in foil and stacked on palettes. If required, this line can be extended by a lacing station at a certain position.

Another demanding task, besides the mechanical set-up and assembly of the equipment, was the entire electronic control. Remarkably, these tasks were not performed by trained electronics- and electrical engineers alone, but trainees in the electronics workshop also lent a helping hand.

Production on the new adhesive binding line started in August and is running smoothly, thanks to the team that was educated and trained in depth for this purpose.
