Liverpool's Printing Showcase Celebrates Grand Opening

Liverpool, 27 September 2006 – Europe’s newest gravure printing operation, Prinovis Liverpool, is opening its doors today to 180 guests from around the world as part of its Grand Opening celebration.

Clients, business partners and shareholders will join local MPs, dignitaries and government agencies including the Department of Trade & Industry, North West Regional Development Agency and The Mersey Partnership to get a first glimpse of the state-of-the-art, 63,000 sq m (670,000 sq ft) facility, which officially started printing this July – just 13 months since construction began.

It will employ over 400 people when running at full capacity in 2008 and will produce high quality, high volume colour publications including magazines, newspaper supplements, retail publications, home shopping and travel catalogues.

The facility has been using its 2.75 metre and first 4.32 metre Koenig & Bauer (KBA) presses. The facility’s second 4.32 metre press is currently being installed.

Speaking about the facility’s development, Stephan Krauss said: “Liverpool is a vital piece in the jigsaw for our printing capabilities, and we are now clearly on track with providing products and services to UK clients. By the end of 2007, Prinovis Liverpool will be fully operational with four presses capable of printing 160,000 tonnes of paper a year. By the end of 2008, we will be one of the region’s largest employers and be making positive impact on the economy in the North West of England.”

Bob Robinson, managing director of Prinovis Liverpool, said: “We are now in a position to service the UK’s strong demand for gravure printing just over a year since the first JCBs rolled onto site to prepare for the facility’s construction. Our decision to custom build the facility to ensure straight line processing is already paying dividends – we have now completed a number of high volume orders for customers around the UK.”
