Prinovis emerged from the amalgamation of the three enterprises Gruner + Jahr, Axel Springer and arvato and all their respective rotogravure printing activities in 2005. The gravure printing activities consist of Pre-press (Repro, Engraving), Pressroom, Finishing and Transport and Logistics. Prinovis furthermore offers additional services such as the photo studios and the advertising agency mbs in Nuremberg and the ”Mobile Solutions“ activities.

The company operates under the legal form Ltd. & Co. KG.

Arvato acquired Gruner+Jahr's shares in Prinovis in 2011 and has since owned a 74.9-percent stake. Axel Springer AG owns 25.1 percent. partners
